Kareena Kapoor (Bebo) to Perform on 2012 IPL Opening Nite


The DLF IPL 2012 Opening Nite has been the buzzword on everyone’s lips, as local and international entertainers will descend on one stage to mark the fifth season of IPL. Matching the verve, energy and spirit of the competition is Bollywood diva Kareena Kapoor, who is set to enthrall audiences at the YMCA College of Physical Education Nandanam in Chennai on April 3.

The actress, renowned for her accomplished performances in films as diverse as Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Omkara and Jab We Met, is known for her vivacious screen and stage presence. With her impeccable sense of style, she has established herself as a youth icon and is a firm favourite of Hindi film fans across the world.

Michael Clarke signed by Pune Warriors India


Michael Clarke, Australia's Test and ODI captain, has been signed by Pune Warriors India for the forthcoming season of the DLF IPL 2012.

2012 IPL Opening Nite Tickets Available Online

IPL5 Schedule Comes Up with Changes


The match schedule of the DLF IPL 2012 has undergone a change on account of the Delhi Municipal Elections in mid April 2012.

The changes are as follows:


- Delhi Daredevils v/s Deccan Chargers moves from Saturday 14th April 2012 (4:00 pm) in Delhi to Thursday 19th April 2012 (4:00 pm) in Delhi

- Deccan Chargers v/s Pune Warriors India on Tuesday 1st May 2012 (4:00 pm) moves from Hyderabad to Cuttack (4:00 pm).

- Deccan Chargers v/s Delhi Daredevils moves from Thursday 19th April 2012 (4:00 pm) in Cuttack to Thursday 10th May 2012 in Hyderabad (4:00 pm).

The Play-off match to be played on Tuesday 22nd May 2012 has been shifted from the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru to the MCA Stadium, Pune.

The Play-off match on Wednesday 23rd May 2012 will be played at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru.

If Royal Challengers Bangalore are placed first or second in the league table then the Eliminator Play-off match will be played on Tuesday 22nd May 2012 in Pune, and the Qualifier 1 Play-off match will be played on Wednesday 23rd May 2012 in Bengaluru.

If Royal Challengers Bangalore are placed third or below in the league table, then the Qualifier 1 Play-off match will be played on Tuesday 22nd May 2012 in Pune and the Eliminator Play-off match will played on Wednesday 23rd May 2012 in Bengaluru.

The Qualifier 1 Play-off match will feature the teams that finished the regular season in first & second place. The Eliminator Play-off will feature the teams that finished the regular season in third & fourth place.

As previously announced, the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai will host the Qualifier 2 Play-off match and the Final.

“The start of the DLF IPL 2012 is exactly three weeks away. We are confident that the fifth season of this phenomenon will turn out to be the best ever, on and off the field,” Rajeev Shukla, Chairman, IPL, commented.

World's Best Commentators Invited for IPL Commentary

- Jackman, Mbangwa, Moody, Raja, Reeve join Ind panel

The 2012 season of the DLF IPL is set to commence on Wednesday, 4 April 2012, and some of the world best commentators will be there to bring the best ball-by-ball action.

This year sees 9 teams playing a total of 76 matches played across 12 venues starting with defending champions Chennai Super Kings hosting the Mumbai Indians at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

IPL has invited the best commentators the game has ever seen from all over the globe, to share their experience and expertise with television viewers around the world.

Robin Jackman, who was born in the Punjab and played for both England and Rhodesia, has settled in South Africa as a commentator. He will be joined by recently retired HD Ackerman and former South African captain Kepler Wessels, who coached Chennai Super Kings in the inaugural season in 2008.

Tom Moody is the lone Australian on the panel. He was coach of Kings XI Punjab from 2008 to 2010. He was part of two World Cup winning teams and also coached Sri Lanka between 2005 and 2007.

Another World Cup winner who will be seated in the commentary box is Pakistan’s Rameez Raja, who was part of Imran Khan’s victorious team in 1992, whilst former Zimbabwean captain Alastair Campbell will be joined by his national team mate Pommi Mbangwa.

New Zealand speedsters Danny Morrison and Simon Doull, and batting ace Craig McMillan will join the panel from New Zealand, whilst Dermot Reeve, assistant coach to Pune Warriors India in 2011, will be coming from England.

India will have the largest representation of commentators and will feature the renowned Sunil Gavaskar, who is better known as test cricket’s first ‘five-figure’ man, who also carries the credibility of being the most experienced of all commentators in the tournament.

The commentary panel will boast the ‘spin twins’ Ravi Shastri and L. Sivaramakrishnan who will be joined by ‘Mr. Technique’ Sanjay Manjrekar, and the popular Harsha Bhogle.

IPL Chairman, Rajeev Shukla, commented: “One of the many highlights of the DLF IPL is the manner in which the skills of the cricketers on the field are complemented by those of the experts sitting in the commentary box. There is no doubt that the commentary team for this year’s tournament will enhance the viewing experience for television audiences across the globe.”

Ganguly Becomes Pune Warriors Captain-Mentor

The Pune Warriors India have made it official that Sourav Ganguly will be the team’s mentor-cum-captain for IPL 2012.

"We are extremely proud that Sourav Ganguly is the captain and mentor of Pune Warriors India in this season of IPL,” Sahara chief Subroto Roy said in the press release issued by the franchise.

“I am sure that his experience, expertise and deep understanding of the nuances of the game will definitely infuse an exemplary spirit of passion and commitment amongst the members of the team,” he said of the former India captain, who takes the reins of the team in absence of the ailing Yuvraj Singh.

Former South African pacer Allan Donald is the team’s bowling mentor while Praveen Amre will coach the batsmen. Pady Upton is the mental and high performance coach of the team.

The Pune-based team will also don a new jersey, which is turquoise blue and silver in colour, which a change from their last season’s black uniform.

Mumbai Indians Induct Five Uncapped Players

Reinforcing on its philosophy in spotting and nurturing young talent for the international platform, Mumbai Indians today inducted five uncapped players in its squad ahead of the fifth season of IPL.

The team management at MI followed performance of many youngsters throughout the domestic circuit this season and zeroed in on junior cricketers Apoorv Wankhade, Sujit Nayak, Rahul Shukla, Sushant Marathe and Kuldeep Yadav for their impressive performance, zeal to learn and passion for the sport.

Mumbai Indians has always believed on youngsters and have been successful in spotting the right talent in players like Ambati Rayudu, R Sathish, Saurabh Tiwary, Dhawal Kulkarni, Abu Nechim, Surya Kumar Yadav, Aditya Tare, etc. The youngsters have been fostered by the Mumbai Indians with high class advance training, playing attitude and technical skills development by the best in the industry.

Mumbai Indians is built on the ideology of ‘Play Like One’ and this has become an integral part of MI’s team composition.

While, Apoorv Wankhade, Sujit Nayak, Sushant Marathe and Kuldeep Yadav will don the MI’s blue for the first time, Rahul Shukla, who had been part of the team in the third IPL, makes a comeback.

Apoorva, a promising lad from Vidharbha, had impressed with his batting technique, ability to score big and quick runs and an agile fielder. At 19, he has exhibited consistency in both batting and swift movement on the ground in domestic tournaments including CK Nayadu, DY Patil etc.

Sujit Nayak is another youngster with relevant experience. Having represented Mumbai in C K Nayudu tourney for three years now, Sujit has the balance of both as a batsman and a left arm orthodox bowler. Kuldeep Yadav, the youngest of the five, at 18, is an unique left arm ‘Chinaman’ bowling talent. Kuldeep had notable performance in his first U-19 Cooch Behar season for UP and had been a consistent player in the junior category tournaments.

Earlier, Mumbai Indians - the Champions League 2011 winner - further strengthened its contingent by bringing in India’s top keeper in Dinesh Karthik and off-spinner Pragyan Ojha during the Transfer Window, and adding Herschelle Gibbs, Mitchell Johnson, Robin Peterson, R P Singh and Thisara Perera through the Auction.

Kolkata Knight Riders Sign Four New Domestic Players

Kolkata Knight Riders
The Kolkata Knight Riders have signed four domestic players to bolster their squad before the start of IPL 2012.

The four players signed by the franchise are Debabrata Das, Iresh Saxena, Chirag Jani and Sanju Samson. While Das and Saxena hail from Bengal, Jani comes from Saurashtra and Samson is from Kerala.

KKR CEO, Venky Mysore, expressed his satisfaction on the signings saying, “Our latest signings continue to reflect our two chosen areas of local players and emerging talent.

“Debabrata and Iresh grow our commitment in our catchment area of Bengal – and we are really happy that they will get a chance to secure their places in our team.

“Chirag and Sanju represent our investment towards the future, and we know that they have the talent and dedication to significantly contribute to our team one day.”

Debabrata, who was part of the Knight Riders’ squad in the inaugural IPL season, is a 25-year-old middle-order batsman who can double up as wicketkeeper as well.

Saxena, a 28-year-old left-arm spinner, meanwhile, has been an important part of the Bengal squad in all three versions of the game.

The 22-year-old Jani has emerged as a dependable all-rounder for Saurashtra while Samson is a promising keeper and middle-order batsman.

Kolkata, who had made it past the league stage of the competition for the first time in April 2011, had earlier picked up Brendon McCullum, Sunil Narine and Marchant de Lange at the 2012 Player Auction.

Kolkata will begin their IPL 2012 campaign when they host the Delhi Daredevils on April 5 at the Eden Gardens at 8pm (IST).

Pragyan Ojha Joins Mumbai Indians

Pragyan Ojha Joins Mumbai IndiansThe IPL the sixth transfer of the 2012 Trading Window. Pragyan Ojha, the left-arm spinner, will move from Deccan Chargers to Mumbai Indians. Ojha has been a part of the Deccan Chargers, since the first IPL season in 2008. He won the Purple Cap for being the highest wicket-taker in the 2010 edition of the tournament.

"With a spinner of Pragyan Ojha's competence, we fortify our bowling department that has won us many matches in the past seasons. Pragyan Ojha is a player of great international repute, and we welcome him with much excitement,” Nita Ambani, owner of the Mumbai Indians, said.

“Pragyan is an outstanding cricketer. He was one of the chief architects of our triumph in 2009. His performances for India, and in the IPL, speak for themselves. We wish him all the best for the future,” E. Venkat Reddy, COO of the Deccan Chargers said.

“Some excellent cricketers have been traded in the previous few days. All eyes will now be on the auction, where more outstanding cricketers will be up for grabs,” Rajeev Shukla, Chairman, IPL, commented.

Richard Levi Joins Mumbai Indins; Replaces Symonds

Richard LeviMumbai Indians, the Champions League 2011 champions, today signed T20 sensation Richard Levi as a replacement for former Australian batsman Andrew Symonds, for the fifth edition of Indian Premier League 2012.

The 24-year-old powerful opener Richard Levi, who blasted himself into the record books with the fastest T20 international century last weekend– breaking previous records of Chris Gayle and Brendon McCullum, will play in IPL for the first time donning MI’s colour.

Expressing eagerness to join the ranks of Captain Sachin Tendulkar and Harbhajan Singh, Levi said, “I am honoured to have Mumbai Indians management interest in my services. I have heard from friends around that Mumbai Indians is like an extended family where team shares a great bond and entrust upon youngsters. Beyond, Sachin Tendulkar has been my childhood hero and it would be exciting to share the dressing room with him.”

Richard Levi will be available full season for Mumbai Indians.

Commenting on Richard’s inclusion in the team, Mumbai Indians spokesperson said, “Richard is the perfect fits for Mumbai Indians current requirement. Post Andrew Symonds’s retirement announcement, we were on a lookout for an explosive opening batsman and Richard’s timing for his massive unbeaten 117 was so perfect to draw our attention.”

Ross Taylor Moves to Delhi Daredevils from Rajasthan Royals

New Zealand captain Ross Taylor has been traded by Rajasthan Royals to Delhi Daredevils ahead of IPL 2012. Taylor is Delhi’s second big signing of the season after they acquired Kevin Pietersen from the Deccan Chargers.

Speaking on Taylor’s inclusion, Daredevils mentor TA Sekar said, "We all know what a quality player Ross is and we are happy that he will be with us this season.

“Besides players like our captain Virender Sehwag and David Warner, we have added muscle to our batting by inducting Mahela Jayawardene, Kevin Pietersen and now Ross Taylor into our fold. Our fans can look forward to some explosive knocks."

Rajasthan Royals had bought Taylor for USD 1 million at the IPL Player Auction 2011. The Kiwi played 12 matches for the Royals, scoring 181 runs at an average of 36.20 and a strike-rate of 119.07.

The Black Caps captain is currently nursing a calf injury but is expected to return to cricket with the Test series against South Africa starting March 7.

Taylor was part of the Royal Challengers Bangalore outfit for the first three IPL seasons before moving to the Royals. Delhi Daredevils will be his third IPL team.
